François LEMBO (1930-2013) - Lot 181
François LEMBO (1930-2013) CRUCIFIX Gold-glazed ceramic with cabochons Signed 20.5 x 14.5 cm Provenance l A relative of the artist in Vallauris. History l Born in Vallauris in 1930, François Lembo began training as a ceramist at the Calva and Rossignol studios in 1951. After his apprenticeship and military service, he worked for three years in the studio of Marc Roussel, his father-in-law, before setting up his own workshop in Vallauris in 1960. Inspired by Byzantine art in Roussel's workshop, François Lembo creates mirrors and crucifixes in the oriental style, as well as Russian icons. These ceramic works are gilded and iridescent pearl enamels simulate precious stones. For over twenty years, he remained faithful to his theme, creating mainly mirrors and icons, which are exhibited in Mr. Dubois' "Terre de Provence" gallery.
