History l Born into a modest Jewish family, Alexandre Altmann studied in the Ukraine before settling in Paris, where he attended the Académie Julian. There, he developed a predilection for Impressionist landscapes, painting with finesse those around Paris and along the French coast. His luminous works were exhibited in prestigious salons in Paris and Russia. In 1927, he was awarded the Légion d'honneur. A frequent resident of Crécy-la-Chapelle, he donated several works to the town, and a street now bears his name.
