LOUIS XIV (1638-1715) King of France. P.S. Paris, May 1655. 1 p. in-folio (lack of parchment in the lateral margins). Letter Patent, patent of ennoblement established in the name of Louis XIV aged then 17 years old, for the benefit of Nicolas Dumaine sieur de Grouchy for high achievements. Handwritten text on vellum, painted coat of arms in the centre of the document: Azure with a chevron Argent between 3 bezants, 2 in chief and 1 in base. Support: 2 greyhounds Argent gorged with collars Argent. Stamp, crest and mantling. Silks and important green wax seal, large seal of Louis XIV : the seal represents the king sitting on his throne, under a fleurdelisé pavilion with two angels spreading the curtain. His feet rest on two lions lying back to back on a platform. He is wearing a crown and a fleurdelisé cloak. In his right hand he holds a long sceptre ending in a fleur-de-lys and in his left hand a hand of Justice. The King is depicted as a child. The counter-seal represents a shield charged with three fleurs-de-lis, topped by a crown and supported by two angels. Expert I Céline Bertin (member of the Compagnie Nationale des Experts)
