GRASSET (Maurice Ferdinand Albert) (1863-1932) SET OF 55 DOCUMENTS, Paris, Brest, Toulon, Beirut, Hong Kong, Hanoi, Cherbourg etc... dated from 1872 to 1925. Approximately 111 pages and 11 half-pages of various sizes, mainly gd in-12, in-8 and in-4. All the letters have been classified and numbered by Admiral Grasset and are in a folder with an autograph inventory. Provenance archives of Admiral Grasset. This set, like a biography of Admiral Grasset, begins with various awards (spelling, history-geography etc. ...) received as a child, various school certificates. Then come the various letters addressed to his father, confirming the latter on the dispositions of sailor of his son, praising his zeal and his uprightness: these letters numbered from 3 to 19 written among others by Captain Jacques Le Béhic on July 1, 1889, September 9, 1889; Admiral Weyer on November 6, 1883; Lieutenant Baudeuson 9 March [1884], 24 September, 9 October, 15 November 1885 and 1 February 1886; Colonel Mourlan on 9 March 1886, 1 December 1888; Admiral Michaud on 21 November 1885, 1 November 1886; Capitaine de Frégate du Barbeyrac on 28 September 1886, 6 December 1887, etc.... Finally, the documents numbered from 20 to 39 bis, letters and notes to which he was the addressee and, with rare exceptions, the sender. The subjects were numerous, the navy of course, thanks for gifts, congratulations, nominations. His correspondents were among others the Captain of Frégate de Montferrand, the English commander Benson, the admiral Gaschard, the curator of the zoological park of Marseilles, the Captain of Vindry, the Doctor Charcot (President of the Yacht Club of France), Sir Walter Long etc... Attached a C.V.A.S. from E. Constans wishing the Grasset couple a lot of happiness, congratulating them for "the present and future babies". The letters numbered from 39 to 42 bis are not included in this lot, as they cannot be sold. Provenance: Private archives of Admiral Maurice Grasset The lot presented above comes from the archives of Admiral Grasset. An upright man, respected by all, a seasoned sailor and visionary. The different lots respect as much as possible the classification made by the admiral himself. We will start with his youth with prizes received at the age of 9 and 10, to end with the letters received when he left the Navy. These archives offer a panorama of the different orientations of the foreign policy conducted by France in the four corners of the globe during the period 1910-1927. Expert | Céline BERTIN
