Rock crystal sanctuary lamp with gadrooned base and turned c - Lot 261
Rock crystal sanctuary lamp with gadrooned base and turned cushion, swollen body decorated with symmetrical scrolls and fruit falls; it is joined to the suspension dome, also in rock crystal, by four chains with fleur-de-lys elements. Basin and dome, Italy, Milan, Miseroni workshop, 1560 / 1600 Chains, probably 19th century Total height: 43.5 cm Basin height: 18.5 cm Diameter: 14 cm (accidents and missing parts, restorations to a group of fruit and to another part of the body) This is the only rock-crystal sanctuary lamp made in the Miseroni workshop that appears to be known. Adopting the form of silver sanctuary lamps, its decorative style is still very much of the Renaissance. The same carving, with gadroons, foliate scrolls, fruit groups and grenetis, can be found on various 16th-century vases. Several pieces belonging to the Kunstkammer of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, dating from 1540 to 1600, and a two-handled vase belonging to the Trésor du Dauphin in the Prado Museum in Madrid (inv.0000091) can be compared. Book consulted: R. Distelberger, Die Kunst des Steinschnitts, Milan-Vienna, 2002. Expert | Cabinet Laurence FLIGNY
