Until the 19th century, Saxon bourgeois women wore a decorative pectoral element suspended from a ribbon around the neck in the shape of a large rosette. This is typical of the late Gothic style, with its small figures set in an architectural surround, and is reputed to belong to the costumes of the former Transylvania of today's Hungary and Rumania.
