PIERRE LE MAIRE (1739-1760) - Lot 83
PIERRE LE MAIRE (1739-1760) Silver and ivory architect's set in a black leather case. The set includes a compass, a mechanical pencil, a needle, an ivory plate, a quill, an inkwell and a half roy foot. Each object bears the hallmark of the city of Paris for small silver objects, namely a hen's head (for the years 1750-1756) or a shell (for the years 1756-1762). The hallmarks on the inkwell date the object to around 1757 (date of the hallmark of the Maison Commune), so this is late-career work by Pierre Le Maire. The quality of the chasing on the needle (with rose decoration) and on the half Roy foot (with acanthus leaf decoration) is extremely fine. The demi pied de Roy is signed "Pre. LE MAIRE APARIS". Paris, circa 1756. Two instruments missing. Total weight: 150.6 g. Weight of silver pieces: 52.7 g. Expert | Benoit REVERDY
