CLAUDE LANGLOIS (1703-1756) Butterfield octagonal silver sundial with bird gnomon. The hour scales (43, 46, 49, 52 degrees) are written in Roman or Arabic numerals. Very fine engraving, especially on the gnomon, the spring and the center of the plate. The compass is divided into 16 sections and on the back are the latitudes of 25 European cities such as Brussels, Lisle, Liege, London, Calais, Lion, Turin, Madrit, St Malo, Paris, Arras, Pau, Signed "LANGLOIS APARIS AUX GALLERIES". In a black chagrin case lined with green silk, closed with two hooks (one hook is damaged) and decorated with nails. With discharge marks for small silver objects from the city of Paris between 1750 and 1756 (hen's head). This is therefore a late-career work by Langlois. Paris, circa 1750-1756. Size : 6.5 x 5 cm.
