JAPAN, circa 1900 Black lacquered wood CABINET with six shelves, three drawers and four compartments uncovered by gold lacquered wood panels inlaid with mother-of-pearl and painted bone depicting birds in flowering branches and figures in rickshaws. The jambs and side panels are richly carved with phoenixes and birds, peonies, chrysanthemums, plum and iris branches. The pediment is decorated with a carved, openwork dragon coiled around itself.
