FRANCE COUCY, The fortified castle, commune of Coucy-le-Château-Auffrique, Aisne. Albumen print mounted on cardboard. About 1880. 15,5 x 22,2 cm. Mounting : 17,4 x 25 cm. The castle of Coucy was one of the most remarkable fortresses of the medieval West. Occupied at the beginning of the First World War by the German army because of its strategic situation, the keep was destroyed on March 27, 1917 by 28 tons of dynamite before the German withdrawal.
